Watch Michael Wesch’s 2007 video The Machine is Us/ing Us (Video 1). Wesch leads a very interesting project that investigates the types of activities that take place around YouTube, a video-sharing website you may have come across already. However, this specific video offers an interesting perspective on the Web as a whole. The video covers some of the ground you have already covered in previous parts as far as the technologies are concerned, but for the purposes of this part I would like you to jot down a few reactions and notes on what you thought were the main overall points being put across. Note that there is no transcript associated with this video, only a music track.
From what I gather, the video is trying to get across the point that we are changing the web as much as it is changing us. We have discovered this innate desire to share, and are making the web more compliant with this desire.
An other point it is stressing is how the content, context and appearance of what we share are all baing accounted for in the very core of the way it is put together in blogs, videos, podcasts, wiki, and other online contents.
The closing points of the video go over how current axioms, ownership, authorship, ethics, will need to be reshaped and reconsidered in light of the social medium of the internet.
