John is obviously a very deep and complicated person, or just as complicated as a “normal person”. Whereas most of us take internet access and social acceptance for granted, or at least at face value, these are things which John values hugely, and which have had a profound impact on his quality of life.
John seems to feel / believe that he is more normal / free when he is online as the layer of obfuscation that the internet provides allows him to not have to reveal his disabilities to those he interacts with.
